Joe Mauer is sick...does it matter?

I like Joe Mauer. He’s probably one of my favorite current Baseball players. However, some of the circumstances surrounding his latest absence from the diamond are too strange to not comment about.

A recent ESPN article discussed how Mauer had come down with a slight case of Pneumonia, and is likely to miss the remaining two weeks of the regular season. Mauer is said to be upset, and feels that his team needs him. What makes this funny is that his team is half a billion games out of the playoffs in dead last place in the National League. Why is his return so important? Beats me.

Health has not been a strong point of the Twins this season. Stomach bugs, injuries and the Flu have harassed their lineup all season, and turned a playoff contender into the second worst team in baseball (thanks to Houston). So, Mauer’s missing the final two weeks should not be treated as the big deal some see it as.

Finally, the ESPN article used the phrase “Mauer has only played in 82 games this season”, to describe the effects of the player’s various health issues. I ALMOST HAD TO LAUGH when I read that sentence. There are hardly any other sports that have have a fourth of the games in a season as baseball. Plus, with deep farm leagues and rotations one player should not swing a team from first to last place in their division in one year.

Twins, you have more to worry about than just Joe Mauer.

Perfectly adorable. When I have a daughter this is what I picture our relationship being like. Did I say adorable?

Great video that shows how movies can be so predictable.

Not only is this a fantastic Strokes song; which is in fact a slower version of a just as good Strokes song. The movie which the video features, Somewhere, is a fantastic comentary on the realities of a life of glitz and glamour. I’m sure that biopics of stars like Katy Perry or Lebron James may not look exactly like this Soffia Coppola film. However, I think the movie really touches on several harsh realities of popularity.

If you like Regina Spektor, but like more of an edge to your music, Kimbra is for you. Perez Hilton likened her to Florence and the Machine, but there is one big difference, this 21-year-old is just getting started. Kimbra Johnson already has a pretty impressive resume of songs prior to the release of her debut album, which hits shelves September 2. Check out her appearance on Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know for a look at her versatility.

I Graduated Too Early...

I’m fairly upset that the Jaguars waited until after I graduated to start offering UNF students $20 tickets to games.

Great song to wake up to! Love this band; especially the guy in the bear suit that they sometimes have play trumpet. Waking up to a brass buzzing Grizzly is the perfect way to start the day!

I hope I’m not really behind the curve on this one, but I just found this song, and it’s probably one of the best things Maroon 5 has done lately. Let me know what you think.
